What Causes Hangovers

Getting a hangover is never a good experience. In fact, the feeling is really bad. Even though there are cures for a hangover it is still important to know the causes of having of a hangover. Yes, there a lot of ways to cure it but is better to prevent it from happening, right?

One main concern is dehydration. One of the most major effects of alcohol to the human body is dehydration. Alcohol makes your body lose large amounts of water. This happens because when you drink liquor, you also urinate frequently. And dehydration is what causes the headaches, dizziness and the thirsty feeling you have. So it is important to drink plenty of water when you are out drinking.

Drinking of alcohol too fast is another cause of hangover. Remember that you should just drink in a slow pace or slow down when you know you are near your limit. Drinking too fast does not help your body to produce the substances it needs to be able to break down the toxins that goes into your body. So, just take your time.

Also remember not to drink different types of alcoholic drinks because it also contributes to hangover. This is because mixing drinks takes a longer time to break down the alcohol. And the carbonation is making the metabolism to process fast. The effect of the congeners is also one great factor with hangover and mixing drinks. That is why it is important to avoid drinks with high congener content.

Remember to have some food taken in before you go out and drink. Drinking with an empty stomach is a big no-no because there is nothing that the alcohol will digest. Eating dairy products or fatty foods will be helpful in making the alcohol to have a slower effect to the body. It makes you feel nauseated.

Also put in mind that when you take in liquor, your body becomes Vitamin B12 deficient. Vitamin B12 helps the body in processing and breaking down the alcohol. Having less of this in the system is what makes you feel sleepy and groggy which are also related to getting hangovers. There are those drinkers who have their vitamin B12 supplement which can sometimes be effective. Having hang-over supplements like Chasers can also be effective.

Another cause of hangovers is acetaldehyde, this is the by-product of alcohol fermentation that is produced by the liver. This acetaldehyde, when not broken down fully will make you feel sick. It is even worse than alcohol. But there are substances in our body which helps to break and attack them making them into acetate which is a non-toxic substance. Thanks to those substances which break them down.

Always remember that even if there are supplements, drugs and substances and enzymes that help in the curing of hangovers, preventing them is still the best way to combat hangover and its effects to our body. It is better to feel good than sorry.
